24 hours plus.........

(i wrote this while waiting in the newark airport on june 23rd.)

Travelling. I can’t seem to get enough. Going to new places. Seeing new things. Meeting new people. Experiencing new tastes. I love it! I sure have been a blessed girl to have been to 15+ countries (and adding Taiwan at the end of july!) But there’s something different about making the 24hour+ trip home. Sure it is great to be home…….but holy cow! Airports continue to make things more difficult for the traveler all the time. I understand that crossing the globe from one side to the other is a long way to go, but wow! I think I have passed through immigration 3 times. I’ve rechecked my bags from one belt to another right next to the one they came off of. I’ve been on 3 planes, the last of which had to get delayed by 1.5 hours. I’ve had to throw away perfectly sealed and good airline issued water as I got onto another plane, only to have to spend almost $3 on 750ml of water in the airport. And because I love my family and Christmas so much, I’ll be doing it all over again come December!!! The delay was actually more than 2 hours by the time we started taxiing and we are sitting on the tarmac right now as I type this. The connection gets worse and worse. We no sooner pulled away from the gate when the pilot announced that since this flight was so delayed, we had to wait in a line of international planes for a spot to take off. He just came on with an update that we were here indefinitely and to get comfortable cause we were no longer waiting for a take-off time between the Newark take-offs, but with the whole eastern seaboard! Could be a long wait. As I was typing this he came on a third time and said that one of the two runways was shut down due to a fluid spill, which means the Newark airport is working on one runway, further delaying our take-off!!! Will we ever make it to Halifax? My poor father was so gracious to agree to pick me up at mid-night. Now it could be morning before we get there.

(we ended up leaving newark not too much after i typed this. we got to halifax around 3am and into the house in kentville around 430am! thanks for the drive dad!!)
