smoke free

so he proved me wrong. t quit smoking for me. i really questioned, after seeing how determined he was to smoke in korea, if he'd actually do it. i always knew he could if he wanted to but i really had moments when i wondered if he'd ever try. well.......he did try and he beat it. i remember a conversation (or maybe it was more than one!!) back in korea where i was telling him that he needed to be done with it before i came to meet him in mississippi. he promised he would and i said that it'd be a huge let down and i didn't want to come if he'd still be smoking. well he was smoke free when i arrived and i haven't seen him smoke since i was in korea last summer. the funny and sad thing is that his mom was asking me to tell him not to smoke about 2 weeks ago and i told her that he had been done with that for a few weeks. she was so excited and exclaimed "you did a great job!". me??? i may have been the motivation but i didn't actually do the quitting. it was all t. what a man! how sweet it is to be smoke free!

road trip and canada!!!

yes......i know......it's been a long time. the last time i tried this, the site had a problem and wouldn't publish my entry or save it so i haven't been too excited about coming back to re-update it.

the road trip went really well. t's parents lent us their infiniti so the driving was great. t drove the first day but i tended to get motion sick so i did most of the rest of the driving while he navigated, played our new portable nintendo and slept. the drive on the first day was kind of boring, but the second day driving through virginia was amazing. it was so beautiful. my dad reminded me the other day that we did that same drive about 12 years ago but i didn't remember. i guess i appreciated it much more this time. for anyone driving through virginia i recommend the I-81. you won't be disappointed. we spent the second night in d.c. and got to visit a friend i met in korea. as always it was great to see zeno again (even if he beat me in dominoes---again! a visit with him isn't complete without the dominoes.).

the trip to boston from d.c. was a day of toll booths and that got annoying really fast. we arrived in boston at about early evening and had a wonderful 2 week visit with t's brother, henry, and sister-in-law, jessica. they are busy studying so we only saw them in the evenings. henry is a medical doctor and is taking 2 years off of his residency to do some research that'll give him some leverage in getting into pediatric surgery a few years down the road. jessica is a pharmacist in a hospital and studies to further her career. they sure make t and i look like the free spirits that we are! they were very welcoming and happy to have us there. i even cooked turkey dinner and pumpkin pies for their thanksgiving. it was a fun day. we appreciated their generocity while we were there and look forward to seeing them for new year's.

after boston we drove to saint john and spent a night with wendy and michael. they were excited to meet t and happy, as always, to have people visit them.

t and i arrived in kentville mid-afternoon on dec. 1st. just in time to wish my nanny a happy 87th birthday and to rest up for t's first christmas tree chopping adventure. we had a good time in new ross........found the perfect tree and ate a delicious turkey dinner at the community hall. after that we went to mahone bay to take in their father christmas festival and then onto lunenburg for supper. it was dark when we got there so we'll have to go back so he can get the full view of it. can't have too much nova scotia south shore!

we got a gym membership on monday and have been to the gym everyday this week. it's helping t pass the time. he wasn't excited about coming here but i think he's having an ok time. he has discovered snow shoveling---and likes it! my parents hired him right away! we've had to shovel the driveway twice this week. he's really getting to see the winter wonderland that canada can be!
